DIY ~ Remineralizing Toothpaste

Follow Me on Pinterest

I finally took the plunge . . . and made my own Remineralizing Toothpaste!

What is remineralizing toothpaste, you ask? Well, it's a toothpaste that contains the necessary minerals to strengthen and restore lost minerals in your teeth.

After reading some articles about the dangers of fluoride, I knew I needed to come up with a healthy alternative for the care of our teeth, gums and overall health!

Seems ALCOA, an aluminum company, needed to find a way to get rid of a toxic, waste, byproduct, called fluorine. It was killing off all the fish downstream from their plant. Somehow, they cooked up a scheme and sold it to the American Dental Association, as a to prevent tooth decay . . . and the rest is history! Now it's in our toothpaste, and water systems, and it is causing a whole boatload of health problems in humans . . . Go figure!

In my studying of the different, safe, ingredients I use in our homemade cleaning products, soaps, lotions, creams, and facial masks, I came up with a toothpaste that incorporates many of the ingredients I already have on hand, to gently clean our teeth. Below I have listed the ingredients I chose to use, with a brief description of their qualities.

  • Bentonite Clay- Volcanic ash with a slight coarseness to help polish teeth. Absorbs toxins, heavy metals and impurities, full of minerals for remineralization of teeth.
  • Spring Water- Adds minerals for remineralization; does not contain fluoride or chloride.
  • Organic, Unrefined, Virgin Coconut Oil- Anti-fungal, antimicrobial, antibacterial; absorbs toxins.
  • Baking Soda- A very mild abrasive, whitens, and restores proper pH balance.
  • Celtic Sea Salt- Contains 82 trace minerals for remineralization of teeth, also a mild abrasive.
  • Stevia- Natural herbal sweetener that will not cause plaque buildup.
  • Cinnamon Essential Oil- Antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-fungal.
  • Tangerine Essential Oil- Antiseptic, promotes cell regeneration.

So without further ado, here's my recipe!

DIY ~ REMINERALIZING TOOTHPASTE ~ makes a heaping 1/2 cup

6 tablespoons bentonite clay powder (food grade)

6 tablespoons mountain spring water

2 tablespoons organic, unrefined, virgin coconut oil

1 tablespoon baking soda

1 teaspoon stevia

8 drops cinnamon essential oil (cassia)

5 drops tangerine essential oil

  • Mix well to evenly distribute all the ingredients throughout the toothpaste.
  • Store in a glass container, not in plastic or metal because this toothpaste will pull the contaminates out of plastic and metal!
  • Apply about 1/4 teaspoon of toothpaste to dry toothbrush with a small spoon or craft stick (Popsicle stick).
  • Don't wet your toothbrush.

Will has been bugging me to make some homemade toothpaste for a while, but when he saw it, I think he panicked a bit!m Let's face it, we are creatures of habit! We're so used to that familiar tube of toothpaste, with that minty fresh taste, albeit, full of harmful chemicals, squeezed onto our toothbrushes . . . It's hard to leave the dark side! I totally understand!

The first time I tried my mixology of toothpaste, I was looking for that old familiar taste and texture. What I ended up with is a totally different taste, which after a couple of brushings . . . I'm hooked! I love this stuff! My mouth feels fresh and clean for hours after I've brushed! I know my teeth, gums and overall body will reap the benefits from a safer, healthier, tooth-whitening and healing ~ DIY ~ Remineralizing Toothpaste . . . created in my kitchen . . . Over at Julie's!!!

P.S. ~ As an added bonus . . . no more foaming at the mouth, and no more awful taste in your mouth if you've just brushed your teeth, and want to drink your morning juice!
